A done deal
Hello
I hope you've managed to catch you breathe after that last installment! I don't think I've ever quite recovered!
Well, now it was time to complete the business deal. Money had been transferred electronically, although my last part of the transfer I misjudged the timing, and because I transferred money at five minutes passed midnight on the day we were heading up country, I couldn't transfer any more - I knew there was a limit on how much, but I wasn't sure what it was. Suffice it to say, I found out that day! So, rushing down to the bank, I cashed out the last five thousand pounds in real smackeroonies!!! A scary thought at carrying all that money around for the next 18 hours or so!
The evening had finally come, and it was time to head out up to the Midlands where we were 'doing the deal'. I was driving this huge van which I'd picked up earlier that afternoon - it was a nice drive - all modern and power steering, though it rained most of the way so it was quite gruelling. Oh, the fun and games we had trying to sort out the size of the van to hire! It wasn't really so much a case of size but the weight bearing load that would be necessary to take ten and a half thousand books or so, a colour laser printer, 3000 sets of hard back covers and several reams of special paper. We got there in the end though, and we certainly had room to spare. So all was good.
We got to our Travelodge late so had ourselves a nice sleep (5 grand under my pillow!). Up bright & early the next morning though - got ourselves a good breakfast and headed off to collect our books & complete the deal.
The rain held off for the best part, and so we ploughed through loading up the van. Quite a daunting prospect - all those white packets of books - all those boxes of covers & paper! We managed to shift everything in a couple of hours - including a coffee break - so were quite pleased with ourselves.
We remembered to sign our contracts and hand over the last bit of the money. The business was now ours! All ours!
We headed back home, with a fully loaded van, our little boy, happy in the front of the van, and us looking forward to the prospect of having to unload it all once we got back home!
I'll stop there for now - needless to say we managed to unload the van and found homes for everything. Most of which was sorted out the same day/night. If I rememvber correctly I was working until about 1am! (Nothing much new there then!)
Please drop by again.
